Posted Saturday, April 07, 2012 by Gregg Makepeace
The Varsity LadyHawks recently completed a tough series of road games against teams in the Top Ten by the OC Register.

In the OC Register's most recent published rankings on Apr 2, Capo Valley is ranked 7th in the county, Aliso Niguel 8th and Trabuco Hills 10th. The Ladyhawks faced all three teams at their home fields recently and more than held their own despite coming home with three losses.

On March 27, the LadyHawks led Capo Valley for much of the game before finally relinquishing the lead in the last five minutes for an 11-9 loss. Vanessa Martinez led all scorers with 5 goals, Kiera Bocchino, Paulina Rhoades, Jennifer Aufill and Brittney Mackey each contributed one goal. Alicia Armenta played tough in the nets with 22 saves on 33 shots on goal.

On Tuesday April 3, the LadyHawks traveled to Trabuco Hills where they fell behind in the first half 11-4 yet rallied in the second half to cut the final score to 16-11. Vanessa Martinez again led all scorers with 3 goals, Paulina Rhodes, Kiera Bocchino and Leti Walden-Martinez each added 2 goals with Brittney Mackey and Jen Aufill contributing a single goal each. Alicia Armenta had an amazing 25 saves on an overwhelming 41 shots on goal.

On Thursday April 5 the LadyHawks played a close fought contest at Aliso Niguel only to lose by a single goal 13-12. Jen Aufill led the way offensively with 5 goals, Kiera Bocchino added 4, Paulina Rhoades and Vanessa Martinez scored 2 each.  Alicia Armenta held tough in the goal once again with 15 saves on 28 shots on goal.

This tough series of road games was interrupted by a nice change of pace 19-4 home victory over visiting San Juan Hills on Thursday Mar 29. Kiera Bocchino led all scorers with 4 goals while ten other LadyHawks contributed goals in the win. Alicia had 13 saves on 17 shots on goal.

Thanks to this tough league schedule, the most recent computerized rankings from LAX Power show the LadyHawks ranked 16th overall in Southern California despite their 4-7 overall record.

The LadyHawks return to action with a home game Tuesday April 17, once again facing a top ranked Capo Valley team.
